Came across this in an email from one of my random social media / content feeds. I thought this was great, since one of the problems in introducing people to King Crimson is where to start them and where for them to branch out to next. Because of its experimental nature and constantly changing lineups, each phase has its own particular feel to it, consistent with what came before and what will come after -- but also distinctly different in feel.
My listening order was roughly this:
In the Court of the Crimson King
Discipline
Larks' Tongues in Aspic
In the Wake of Poseidon
Lizard
Red
Three of a Perfect Pair
Beat
Thrak
The ConstruKction of Light
Power to Believe
(and surprisingly) Starless and Bible Black
There's not a wrong way or order to listen to King Crimson. Though I personally recommend starting with one or more of the first three on my list. They are among the generally-recognized classic albums and do a pretty good job of setting the tone for the rest of your journey. Enjoy!
